If you agree that a $2.65 minimum wage is an insult to Kansas workers and want to join us in raising it, there are several ways you can help:
(1) Tell your family, friends and neighbors about our shamefully low minimum wage – many people do not even know how low it really is, and that it is the lowest in the nation. Tell them that you support a minimum wage that meets the basic needs of working families. Click here for facts on the minimum wage.
(2) Tell your state senators and representatives to champion an increase in the minimum wage that matches the federal level, and is adjusted annually for cost-of-living increases. Writing letters and emails, sending faxes, and calling your senators and representatives makes a difference. Putting in face-to-face time is even better. Express to them how important you believe it is to raise the state minimum wage now. Elected officials are accountable to YOU.
(3) Write a letter to the editor of your hometown newspaper.
(4) Download and copy our petition and organization statement, and ask your family, friends, co-workers, church members, etc. to sign on to our campaign. You can download our petition and many other resources on the Resources Page.
(5) Attend meetings of Raise the Wage, Wichita and help us coordinate petition drives and other events to help build public awareness of the mutual benefits of a higher minimum wage – for workers, businesses and the overall economy. (See calendar for meeting & event schedule)
The issue of minimum wage is not just a concern of low-wage workers - it is a concern that affects us all. We need people all over the state to help us raise the Kansas minimum wage. Remember: it was the effort of many ordinary citizens that finally forced legislators to raise the federal minimum wage earlier this year!
